Different protection will be needed for the zeds and even different people. For example, you can craft for armor like strapping PVC pipe to yourself, making a sheet metal vest of some sort, and even just strapping some plywood to your body. all of this accept for maybe the PVC pipe slow you down but add armor. As for finding some different armor, there is the police vest and military armor plates. And even the civilian plastic jacket that motorcycle riders wear for protection. (craftables all have pants, jacket, and vest variation. Findings such as the plastics can be found with pants, jackets, and vests. unlike the military and police vests ((To op))

(okay for blunt)
Level 1, the plywood armor
(okay for blunt and select bullets)
Level 2, sheet metal, covers most vital organs with good protection but still very exposed.
(Best protection against blunt, not bullets at all)
level 3, Plastics, covers all upper half with the jacket, and just the chest with the vest
(very rare, good in all areas in select parts of the body)
Level 4, police gear
(extremely rare and only good in select parts of the body)
level 5, Military

(none of the pictures belong to me, just reference)

There is no military presence on the island, so there will not be any mil grade loot of any sort.

Military armors have good protection of projectile weapons but not that good of like melee or puncture protection, but like police riot armor have good protection of those kind hits so it works best against zombies but not other players.

Those are armor type what can found in police station or prison, but you can allways build your own versions of those, i put couple versions what come in mind.

Leather armor, soon we can start hunt animals so there we can harvest leather too and copper wire what is allready in game whith those two you can make armor, what gives some sort of protection.
1 leather 1 Wire: can make 1 part of armor like chest armor, add second leather then you get armor on backside too. Same way adding leather and wire get armor to 1 arm and so on, so you need 4 leather and 3 wire to make full armor for upper body. And legs go similar way 1 leather 1 wire you get 1 leg armor and same to other leg.
Then make those armor better goes just adding layers of leather and wire so it get more durability and protection.
Same way can make little better armor adding scrap iron or metal sheet between layers of leather and get even more protection and that metal give some protection of guns too.
Tools what to need to build these pliers and when add metal then needs to have hammer and hacksaw too.
That how many layers can add i think 4 layers of leather is max, but only 1 layer of metal.

Armors can make more complex like you need to make own armor for shoulders, elbows and knees and so on, but then it can go too difficult so it turn against whole gaftable armor idea itself.

Offcourse can think you can sew those leather to your clothing but that whole other way to think how graft armors.

Other armors what can put in game is like motocross gears and so on and those kind protective gears can found allmost every sport what comes on mind. So it's only to pick some and code in game.

Durability and protection of armor is one thing what need to think too, if 1 layer of leather gives 50(hp) durability and +5% protection and metal gives durability 100 and protection +15% then you have max durability 300(hp) and +35% of protection, so that gives room to those commercial armors too.

That what i have thinking of armors in game.

It's a very nice idea, finding or crafting armour. But there are some issues with the current game mechanics. Crafting and hit boxes are still limited. Perhaps we could start with body armour found at police stations?

Yes that i tought too, but if some point those hit boxes come better then can start actually think how armors should work.
Those armors is one thing what need to wait and can implement in game after clothing for different seasons like winter and so on.

I agree with @RaakaKarju on this, it's something that should be thought about now, if it becomes a thing in the game, or even might. At this pre-alpha stage of the game, now is a good time to make provision for extra data points for clothing and armour on players. We all know that shooting zombies in different location affects the damage caused. So it's a good time to think about armour for players. Could it effect a players stamina? Would it be adverse in more severe climatic conditions? It would be nice to see the provision for this in the code when we get to change clothing for different seasons.
