Since we will be playing on a island system I thought a Coast Guard station would make a good location. The station could be located on an island by itself or it could be placed on an existing island. The amount of stations can be increased as well when the island chain grows. There would be one main station with a heli pad and multiple smaller stations scattered across the maps coasts. The type of organization would depend on where the game is located, for example the United States Coast Guard is apart of the military and the Canadian Coast Guard consists of a organization apart of the Canadian government that responds to emergency situations. Both would have similar survival and rescue gear as well as fairly similar boat's, planes and helicopters, but the USCG like I stated is more militarized and the Canadian Coast Guard are only allowed to carry firearms to protect against the native wildlife. Her Majesty's Coast Guard is like the Canadian Coast Guard in that it has nothing to do with enforcing law but it is a uniformed part of the MCA and I don't think they carry firearms for defense.

For the loot we could have a variety of items that could be used search & rescue as well as various vehicles, they would also have a lot of radio equipment. For weapons I can think there could be a few melee weapons based off of things like survival axe's and other tools, as for firearms it would depend on the country that the archipelago is apart of. I don't think the HMCG carries firearms at all so in the UK the coast guard station wouldn't have any guns, the Canadian coast guard are allowed to carry modest weapons for protection, so if we're in Canada we could find civilian weapons. If the game takes place in a Russian or American territory it would have the most potential for firearms but I would propose just small arms that a special police force like US SWAT or the Russian OMON(if that's the right equivalent) might use.

For vehicles we could have company car's, since some groups do have police style car's…….for land fish I guess. They do also use planes and heli's a lot for rescue so I would like to see a heli at the station, the stations only rescue helicopter should be present but should be destroyed in some way. I think it would be pretty cool to see the broken heli in the middle of the stations courtyard or crashed into a wall or fence surrounding the area. Maybe the helicopter could be sticking out of the water near the station since it would most likely be located near the coast. There are also some really good boats that they could have spawn in the area, like Zodiac's or Response boat's. Something I would also love to see that would be extremely rare and would start broken and would be really hard to repair would be a hover boat.

This could also be a location for other suggestions like @Aj Roesel's Siren idea and @TotallyNotHenry's Weather tower idea. Both would factor in with the weather reports the Coast Guard announce, if it's a remote location the Coast Guard Station might have it's own weather equipment. It could also be the location for the rare loot items I suggested that can be used in case of natural disasters like the BRCK or the modular shelters. @Vegalyp wanted a lighthouse and it's typical for coast guard stations to be built with or around lighthouse's.

Here are some pic's of Coast Guard Stations.

Thanks, I was thinking they could have picked up injured/sick crew aboard a ship. It would have been around the begining of the infection so they wouldn't know about zombies. During the flight the crew member(s) would have turned and attacked the coast guard personel. Think of it like the scene in Aliens when Fero is killed by the xenomorph and crashes the dropship into the apc. They could have almost landed then bam the zombie strikes and

Love the attention to detail +1
Thanks, detail is the name of the game lol

Well I found a set of survival item's/weapons that I would like to see as loot at the Coast Guard Station. They are the M48 Kommando series from United Cutlerly. I would like to see the M48 Survival Axe, the M48 Survival Hammer and the M48 Survival Spear as well as a knife for misc use and prehaps a machete. The items since they are being used by the Coast Guard should probably have orange handles or some other way to distinguish them as reascue items.

First off is the Survival/Rescue Axe
http://www.unitedcutlery.com/Images/medres/UC2905.JPG
These could be issued to search & rescue teams for survival purposes and for breaking the windows or doors of a sinking ship. It could also be a item that a heli might drop in a bag with other items since there are times when a search & rescue team knows where someone is but can't get to them due to weather conditions or geography.

Survival/Rescue Hammer
http://www.unitedcutlery.com/Images/medres/UC2960.JPG
Like the Survival Axe this coule be issued to teams boarding a ship to get through windows, doors and walls. The pick end could also be used to pry open heavy doors and containers as well. It could also be used for building shelters and hammering down tent stakes and like the survival/rescue axe it could be used as a walking stick due to it's length and the grip below the head.

Survival/Rescue(?) Spear

I am not completly sure on the rescue pusposes so I think this could be labled as a weapon that could have been shipped in bulk to the Coast Guard due to a logistics error. For survival it could be used for hunting and for defense aginst large predators, like the axe and hammer the spear could also be used as a walking stick.

Survival/Rescue Knife
http://www.unitedcutlery.com/Images/medres/UC3021.JPG
This could be the standered issue knife for the local Coast Guard and could be used for a varity of survival purposes and could be used to cut a drowning fisherman from a net or themselves once they have jumped into the water. I have also talked about some sharks that might not mind the enviroement the game is in, so it could be used to defend aginst sharks.

Survival/Rescue Machete

This looks a bit crazy but you have to admit it looks pretty badass. These could be used to clear brush when searching for lost hikers and could be used to create a shelter if need be. Like the Spear this could be a result of a shipping error which could explain the style of the blade.

These items could be a result of the local goverment attempting to modernize the local Coast Guard with new equipment, this could also be an explanation for the Hovercraft I wanted. The hovercraft would be the big ticket plublicty item that was bought for the coast guard and all of the weapons I just suggested would be an attempt at modernizing their gear. Their inexperiance with the hovercraft could lead to the reason why it's in such dissrepair like I described above, I really want a hovercraft but it should be really hard to repair and maintain. Such a bulky vehicle would be pretty hard to control as well and there wouldn't be a lot of room on land for it either depending on the area.
