Okay I have loved these things ever since looking up potential hiding places during a apocalypse. The Maunsell forts are small sea forts built in the Thames and Mersey estuaries during WWII. I thought they would make really good old military locations, I don't know the back story for the island but they could add them around the island as old WWII installations constructed similarly to the ones built to defend the UK.

I really like the Red Sands sea forts and the others like them, they could have individual towers or towers connected in a grid. I think most of the catwalks connecting the original towers have fallen but perhaps the forts they place around the island could have barely connected towers that could be repaired by a player or they could just have lone towers.

On potential items old military items could be found in the towers, along with some parts and tools. A pirate radio station was set up in one of the original abandoned towers so they could do something similar so you could find more modern items like new radio equipment spare food or plastic water bottles as well as some different amenities such as storage and furniture. On the wiki it says that fish like to congregate around the tower which makes sense since their legs could provide protection from larger animals, so they could make good spots to fish.

The benefits would be the protection from being out in the water as well as being made with old military standards, and the towers could only be accessed by boat or perhaps swimming but that would be hard. The things left in the towers like the generator and electrical system could be repaired and maintained allowing the tower to be turned into a home, as well as the potential space if all the towers are connected or at least could be reconnected. The towers would definitely lack zombies except for people that may have attempted to use it after being bitten(unless they can swim)and could be easily defended against sea attacks by a single person.

On the negatives the forts would definitely be sought after if they add multiplayer, the player making it their home would be exposed to the elements more so then one on the island. I am also not completely sure about the psychological ramifications of living for large amounts of time on a lone fort standing in the water. Potential lack of structural integrity as well as the potential for falling from the structure and injuring ones self on the fall. Losing transportation while acquiring supplies would make it very difficult to return to the tower as well as only being able to transport large items with a boat.

Modification's: Besides the obvious mod's like corrugated metal panels and flood lights I was thinking of a survivor made elevator/lift made from a motorized winch, a heavy wood pallet and lots of steel chain. Survivor made gun/weapon emplacements made from a heavy telescope tripod like this guy https://www.astronomics.com/images/Product/large/12015.jpg tell me that wouldn't be perfect for a improvised weapon mount. After seeing the pic for that telescope mount I thought why not a telescope to spy on the island, they would be huge binoculer or monoculers with a tripod like this http://www.thegreenhead.com/imgs/barska-encounter-telescope-binoculars-1.jpg .

A large homemade desalinization device would really help with life on a sea fort(I'll look up a good homemade setup but if you guys can find one or one has already been posted I'm all ear's). A algae farm would also work with the water theme(I will post a seprate thread for a Algae farm). Another ambitious but helpful addition to the fort would be a Aquaponics system, you would be able to breed fish and grow kelp or seaweed at the same time. Although I will say I really don't know much about Aquaponic's(I might make a thread for it later). Those are about all I can think of but if you guys can think of any modifications that might work well with a sea fort I would like to hear them.

Well that was it sorry for the massive read I seem to have a problem with taking an idea and going crazy. I hoped you guys like my idea I really think that the fort's would make a really interesting addition to the island both aesthetically and functionally, so as always feel free to share any idea's you guys might have.

Well for starters, I would like to say I only read tid bits of that as I do not like to read all that much. But I will give you my opinion on them. First I don't think they would realistically still be there or had been there in the first place. As you said they were built during WW2 they would start to break down and depending on where the island was located they might not have been built at all. Another thing is that I think the positives majorly out weigh the negatives. You have a supply of food (fish) and also an infinite amount of water (as long as you can desalinate it, which is pretty simple), as well as being impenetrable from zombies. (unless they can climb) That's everything you would need to survive as many nights as you want. The only danger would be other players but if you got enough friends with big enough guns and enough ammo you could have that covered as well. I like the your ideas they are very exotic but they are kind of hard to see in game because of that. Keep them up though I like seeing them and maybe the devs like the idea, or even inspire them to do similar things.

Most of the pictures I believe are fairly recent and in my post I said that they had recently been used as a pirate radio station, being fairly old was also apart of the negatives. I meant open holes in the floors and walls as well as the possibility of a open roof, I think the psych meter would play a big role(although I don't know what are the negatives of having a bad psyche are) living in a rickety, drafty even if repaired building might not be very good for your mental and physical health(Although the view from the top would be nice). You are right it would be easy to defend with a few good friends but the same could be said for attacking it, the sea forts would be a major point of contention between groups.

One thing I was hoping for to make them a bit more dangerous was the possibility for swimming zombies, if I remember right zombies are more active at night and will search for the player. It would be cool if zombies would start dog paddling towards the fort. Another thought on negatives that would work both with zombies and players, if you are attacked it would be fairly hard to get away even if you could defend it effectively. If zombies came after you in the fort they would either stay at the bottom making it extremely dangerous to leave or repeatedly try to enter creating a siege, same would go for living humans.

As I said before although you do have a good source of food and water with the right know how(although the same could be said for most coastal buildings) it probably wouldn't be very healthy to live in that sort of building. You would be constantly exposed to the elements not to mention living in a rust filled heap, your physical health would have to be constantly monitored and you would have to have a good supply of medicine and various other medical supply's more so probably then if you were living in a forest or in a newer cleaner building with better amenities.

I appreciate the criticism it helps with fine tuning things, tell me what you think about the Mental&Physical aspects of living there as well as the Siege aspects. I will be thinking of some things to add to the idea to make it better.

Stranded deep does a good job of incorporating these! I like the idea.

i think these are a good idea
i think they might fit in well when new islands are added down the road, as has been discussed in other threads

keep the good ideas (and great documentation) coming

What? No. We can't stop here. This is bat country.
Yea I like these... they would be a pain in the ass to get clean, fortified and running with power but it would be worth it in the long-run. I imagine these would be hard to attack and easy to defend, the only way to attack would be by boat and that would be suicide for sure.
