This could be an area that used to be plentiful in resources before the zombie apocalypse. Now was forgotten and overgrown players could venture down into the twisting tunnels for various minerals and tools. but with such valuable things in the cave it is only natural that there be a plentiful amount of miners who were infected down in the depths. this would be a wise edition because all the ores and minerals that can be use to craft various items and you could even add a smelting system to support the mining and smelting of ores. now i know that you have said that you don't want to turn this game into a fully destructible world but i'm just talking about the mining aspect there is no need to pursue mining any further if you don't want to.

Loot May Include

  • various mineable ores

  • various mined ores

  • pickaxes

  • lanterns

  • flashlights

  • dinamite

  • miner's helmet

  • preserved food

  • cantens

I think this is a good idea, maybe an old gold mine or something along those lines would be cool, live underground, protected by the elements but it would be cold and lighting would be a problem, so flash lights would be a good idea, but what if you don't have batteries? a torch would be nice or even a oil lamp would be good

I like the idea of having this in the game but I dont like the idea of mining and smelting ores. Mining is an incredibly hard process, and you need to do a lot to the ore before it can be smelted into something that can then be forged and used to craft with. Mining, smelting, and forging are all specialist fields that require training, so its unrealistic to think that someone could just come along, mine some ore, process the ore, smelt the ore, and forge it.

Mineshafts and abandoned tonnels are going to increase the creapy atmosphere of the game.
If you will decide to go for a walk at catacombs you must have a whole bunch of food suplies, a torchlight and a gun (optionally) =D
If you have done everything right you would be rawarded with *cool* staff... Another question is how to get back to the surface...
Safely... ))

I agree with the fact that there should be some underground aspect in the game, like using mines as a way to get from certain points in the map quickly. But if we put all of these ores and deep mining systems into the game, it won't be long before this turns into Minecraft or 7 Days to Die. I really don't think that there should a big mining system with heaps of ores. As for general underground base building, I think it would be a good idea, but there NEEDS to be limits to how far you can go. Once again, this is a zombie apocalypse game, not a sandbox game like Minecraft.

Realistically most humans inhabit an island cause there is something there they need such as gold or diamonds. This would add to immersion to know why there is a city there and not just cause its a nice place to live. +1

I agree, I just don't think the mining and ores would be the best idea.

@castroTheMexican That is a good point but if they are already talking about implementing caves and such a few mine shaft (no ores or gold) would be a good way to pick up some dynamite or pickaxes and other small things.

@Cookie Yea no ores or anything just there to explore and possibly live in with like a wooden door or concrete door.

Yeah I really like the idea of mine's and tunnels, it would be interesting to see people take over the largest caves/mines. I would expect that out of a bandit group since the health and sanity of a player staying in a mine/cave for large amounts of time would be effected. On the subject of smelting I am kind of meh about it but something I would be in favor of would be loot drops in the form of already mined ore, such as gold or silver. It wouldn't be for smelting unless they decided to add something for it but my main thought would be for player 2 player trade. It may not actually do something practical but everyone loves shiny stuff so you may be able to trade that small gold chunk you found for something with that friendly survivor you just met. Miners like to keep every scrap they find so you could also find small glass/plastic bottles filled with small gold or silver scrap's/dust.

Every once in awhile I have heard people talking about npc shop keepers, is that something the Dev's have talked about? I hadn't heard anything about it so I have no idea, but if they do add them small gold or silver pieces could be rare high value sell items.

its in debate right now, or was, i'm not sure... but anyways its in the post the devs made about currency, this is a gist
"do we cant currency or not?"
"if we do we need npcs"
"no we can just trade stuff with survivors"
and then everything is based of those two things in all sorts of ways like bottle caps, gold, barter ect...

I did a search and didn't find anything regarding mine shafts or anything of the kind, now most places had mining shafts but most have been filled up but there are still quite a few that are only blocked with some wooden planks so maybe if you have an ax or a crowbar you would be able to find these locations and pry them open, not sure what you'd really want to go into a dirty dark hole for unless you want coal as a fuel source but even then you'd need a pickaxe of some kind.
