It was meant for PVP. Not to kill a mouse. =) Similar to the Shotgun trap you seen in the videos, except this one could be more hidden but it would take out players.

Items Needed.
Mouse Trap
Rifle Round (Pistol round or shotgun shell would work also.)
Nail
Bailing Wire
Hand Drill (Or electric. What ever the game will have)

Place them by the door (Bullet up) in a "Door Stop" mode so they slide until the trap sets. Could be stuck between the Door and the Door frame (On a cracked open door if possible) so when opened it would trigger. Could be placed on the floor under a rug (Bullet up) and then triggered when you step in the rug.
IRL with the Bullet not having anything to hold the compression, most of the powder would not burn so it would more than likely not be a fatal trap, but it would "Flash Bang" you and cause you to get shot and stun you at the same time.
Would be a fireball in your face if you used a Shotgun shell full of Magnesium shavings instead of lead shot.

I love the idea! But yeah, by itself it wouldn't be fatal--mostly would just make a loud noise. But I could see a number of ways this could be useful. It would alert you of someone's presence for one. The loud noise might also attract nearby zombies, so even though the trap itself might not be fatal the zombies could be. You could pour gasoline all over the area and when the door is opened the victim would be engulfed in flames.

All you would need is a mouse trap, a single nail, a single shotgun shell, glue, trip wire or rope, and a hammer or screw driver.

A nail is driven into mousetrap with a shotgun shell on the opposite side affixed to the trap with glue. A wire or rope would be attached to the trap once it is set. The idea is that someone (or something) trips the wire which causes the trap to snap shut onto the nail which makes the pointy side of the nail hit the primer on the shotgun shell.

The shotgun shell primer causes the shell to fire into the direction of the thing activating the trap. The blast could also be used as a noise early warning system for hordes or groups of marauders. Especially useful for a player that has shotgun shells but no shotgun.

A shotgun shell could also be replaced with a chem light which would have the trap snap shut directly on the light to activate it for a non-lethal trap. This would be useful for getting a visual cue on your target at various ranges at night if you stagger the traps in the forest. All traps listed here could be placed on a wall or ground.

That sounds cool, it would be slightly OP (because you don't have to have a gun). Buuuuttt, you could have it as only a single use and the shotgun shell will implode the mouse trap and nail after it has been fired.

Thanks for the response. The idea is to wound and alert the player for the most part. In essence, it is strictly a defensive tool meant to be used in conjunction with other traps. In reality, the primer going off does actually cause damage to the wood of the trap. Maybe not enough to render it useless, but for game purposes just one use would be acceptable.

You could also replace the shotgun shell with a flare round.

Ohh yeah, that would be cool. Are flares pull/twist though? Not a pin/primer? (Not to sure)
A flare round would be similar to a shotgun shell as it would be fired from a flare gun.
